Havelock Below the Surface: A Snorkeller’s Playground

Just float… the reef will do the rest

Snorkelling on Havelock Island is wonderfully uncomplicated. Get your fins, mask and snorkel on, slip into the water, take a slow breath, and suddenly—there’s a whole other world beneath you. Corals, curious fish, and if luck is on your side, a turtle cruising by like it owns the place.

Here’s where to dip in:

Kalapathar Beach

Just 280 meters away from our jungle resort, lies a whole different world. The reef is located right of the main beach and is good for beginners. Early mornings are great for chances to see the turtles who come to feast on the sea grass.

Radhanagar Beach (rocky edges)

Not just for sunsets. Come early, find the rocks, and you’ll spot little reef pockets with fish darting in and out.

Turtle Beach

Quieter, calmer, and a little more off the radar. Expect clear water, deeper reef patches, and plenty of fish doing their thing.

Vijaynagar Beach (Beach No. 5)

Slow, gentle, and crowd-free. Ideal for an easy float and a peaceful peek underwater.

Before you jump in

  • Go in the morning—the sea is calmer and clearer.

  • A life jacket = effortless floating (highly recommended).

  • Look, don’t touch—corals are alive and delicate.

  • Skip regular sunscreen or go reef-safe.

  • Swim slow. The reef isn’t going anywhere.

A few things to watch for

  • Currents can sneak up—don’t drift too far from where you started.

  • Corals can be sharp—keep a little distance.

  • Some marine life can sting if bothered—best admired from afar.

  • Boats near busy spots like Elephant Beach—stay aware.

Snorkelling here isn’t about chasing something rare—it’s about noticing what’s already there.Float long enough, and the reef might just start putting on a show for you.
